Intercultural Management – The Key to Your Success

We are increasingly interacting with people from other cultures or do business across national borders.  This adds complexity to our personal or work environment; how we do business, interact with co-workers, guest and customers. Intercultural Management emphasizes on how cultural difference impacts inter-personal relationships, how we interact, make decisions and communicate with each other. This lecture provides insight and strategies on how to increase understanding and minimize conflicting situations.

Different Places and Cultures – Fun Stories from Work and Daily Life

Join me on this fun, entertaining and informative journey where I relate my experiences of working in different cultures.  Enjoy and learn from the surprises, misunderstandings as well as the confusion I experienced from places in parts of Europe, North-America and Africa.

Am I talented? - How to recognize talents and how to put them to work!

More than 10 years ago the Gallup Organization published its studies on "Strength" which identified 34 different strength categories in people. The study also found that those who were most successful in their jobs had a high utilization of their strengths, which tended to be a selection of 5 out of the 34. Furthermore they noticed that certain professions did not require specific strengths. It found the people who were successful in these certain professions used their own personal strength set which varied from person to person.  We have been studying these phenomena for many years and applied it successfully. Through this engaging presentation you will find out more about your own strength potential, that of employees, students or others you interact with.

Positive or negative bias - What does it mean and how it affects us?

We tend to interpret bias in its negative form. On the flip side, there is also a positive side to bias – or put differently a stereotyping advantage or disadvantage. Many of us believe that we are aware of our biases or don’t have any at all and that we can control what influences us. In reality bias – positive or negative – is something that occurs in our unconscious and as such is often called unconscious bias, which is a very human trait. It impacts the choices we make, which education or profession we pursue, our candidate selection, promotions as well as situations in our personal lives. Here we cover what each one can do to become more aware of bias impact, whether you are a teacher, manager or simply an interested individual.

How to work more effectively in virtual teams!

Virtual teams can pose particular challenges. Often we believe we can solve any communication lapses with the right technology such as video conferencing, phone calls or emails. This is of course correct. However it is not enough to ensure teams work well together over longer geographic distances. Oftentimes employees miss the personal contact, some small talk, or the ability to quickly resolve a problem by spontaneously meet and discuss the issue at hand with other colleagues or managers. Here we go over what each person and team can do together to improve long distance working relationships; to give it a more personal touch and achieve better results.

Diversity and Inclusion – it is much broader than you think!

The understanding of diversity is quite broad. In Europe equality of men and women in the work place is a frequently discussed topic. In the US diversity has a broader reach. Nonetheless, diversity is much broader than gender, nationality, race, religion or other distinctions we like to use. Some large “Pharma” businesses use diversity differently within their R&D departments; like diversity in education, background, experiences and so on. This type of diversity will help ensure the teams have a broader range of creativity and innovative thinking. Diversity is an advantage for companies who depend on innovation and creativity, who want to improve their risk assessments and have more successful interaction with customers and guests. This very interesting topic is discussed during this presentation.
